What is Shell Eco-marathon?
The Shell Eco-marathon is a supermileage competition that challenges student teams from around the world to design, build and test ultra energy-efficient vehicles. Open to university and high school teams, the Shell Eco-marathon offers annual competitions at three locations worldwide - the Americas, Europe and Asia.
The Shell Eco-Marathon - Americas moves to Detroit, Michigan for 2015
After 5 years in Houston, TX, the Shell Eco-marathon - Americas was moved to Detroit, MI in 2015 and is scheduled to take place in the 'Motor City' through 2017. For the past 2 years, the COBO Center in downtown Detroit has hosted over 1,000 students from 7 countries throughout North, Central, and South America. Teams spent four days in intense activity - from completing final details on their vehicles, to getting through both technical and safety inspections, and finally competing on the track.
The track for the event went through about 1.5 miles through the streets of Detroit, starting and finishing at grandstands outside of the COBO Center.
